Having sufficient skilled ICT professionals is a critical foundation for Victoria to build future economic growth and to position Victoria for new technology and business investment.

The Victorian Government launched its three year Victorian ICT Workforce Development Plan, in June 2014 to ensure Victoria has an ICT workforce that will drive innovation and economic growth into the future.

Building a robust and highly skilled ICT workforce is challenging but can be achieved through collaboration between industry, education and government.

The set of actions in the Victorian ICT Workforce Development Plan is a $3 million investment towards three strategic objectives:

  • to overcome misconceptions and increase awareness of ICT careers
  • to optimise the contribution that ICT can offer to business and
  • to improve the alignment between ICT qualifications and business requirements.
These actions aim to increase the interest of Victorians of all ages to study and take up a career in ICT, help businesses to recruit and retain the ICT capabilities they need and build closer relationships between business and education providers.
